WALT: use a thesaurus to find synonyms and to add more impact and interest to our writing.

Aunt Skeeter and the bad itch!
(Old Version)

It was a very hot day at the Bluebell farm. Aunt Skeeter had been working in the garden since daybreak. She looked up at the hot sun and wished she were swimming in the cool creek down the road. All at once a good idea came to her mind. She decided a swim was just what she needed. She ran down to the creek and jumped right in! A smile spread across Aunt Skeeter’s face as she floated on the water. However, her nice swim didn’t last for long. All of a sudden, Aunt Skeeter let out a cry that could be heard in the next county. She jumped up out of the water like she had been shot from cannon. She wiggled and squirmed as she tried to find the source of her discomfort. After one big shake a fat catfish came flopping out of Aunt Skeeter’s overalls. Seeing the catfish made Aunt Skeeter laugh so hard that she had the hiccups for two days!!

Aunt Skeeter and the dreadful itch!
(New Improved Version)

It was an extremely hot day at the Bluebell farm. Aunt Skeeter had been slaving away in the garden since daybreak. She looked up at the scorching sun and wished she were swimming in the crisp creek down the road. All at once an amazing idea came to her mind. She decided a swim was just what she needed. She sprinted down to the creek and bounded right in! A smile spread across Aunt Skeeter’s face as she floated on the water. However, her relaxing swim didn’t last for long. All of a sudden, Aunt Skeeter let out a yelp that could be heard in the next county. She flopped up out of the water like she had been shot from cannon. She wiggled and squirmed as she tried to discover the source of her discomfort. After one huge shake a plump catfish came flopping out of Aunt Skeeter’s overalls. Seeing the catfish made Aunt Skeeter giggled so hard that she had the hiccups for two days!!

WALT: Use 'Publisher' for effective presentation.

New skills I have learnt are... to use Publisher effectively, such as inserting an effective background.
I am very proud of the way I have... used correct punctuation throughout poem publishing and used colur to engance my design.
Next time I will try... to do a more effective/creative title.

WALT: add language “magic words” to our writing to describe and to add impact and interest to our writing.

We are experimenting with “show and NOT tell” language.
Here are some of our favourite descriptive language.

It was a sunny day.
The landscape was bathed in golden sun light.
The brightness was so intense that no-one could see.

The icecream was good.
The ice-cream tasted like a million lollies in my mouth all at once.
Every bit of the ice-cream melted into my taste buds.

The boy was angry.
His face was erupting with furry.
His fist was clinched, his knuckles were white.

The boy ran.
The boy flew like a super hero across the street.
The boy thundered past with only dust left in his tracks.

He made cheese.
The boy screamed as he spotted a mouse invading his yellow creation.
The smile on his face as finally sculpted his yellow surprise.

The teacher was fed up.
Her eyes were red with anger and frustration.

His nose was blocked.
His nose was filled with indescribable green slush.
His nose was so full of green pudding that he was having trouble inhaling oxygen.
An ocean of green sludge bursted from his nose, Ewwwwwww!!!!

It was cold.
It was bone shattering cold, ice covered the windows so thickly that no-one could see out.

The cat was black.
The cat was as dark as it was during witching hour.  His eyes were small glints piercing every dark corner.
The cat evaporated into the dark void of the night.

She was hungry.
Her tummy grumbled, it was a pool of hot mud ready to begin its dance.
